Break Right Back

Break Right Back

What is it?

Born off the back of conversations with on-air talent (plus the age old "it's never a break until you hold" conversation), this stat highlights just how frequently a break of serve is followed up immediately by another break – hence the "break right back."

Why we like it?

For some of the very best returners in the game, being broken is not necessarily the hammer blow that it may be for other players. Matteo Arnaldi breaks right back 34% of the time which is among the best in the men's game, while Rublev sits at 25% which is about average for the top 100.

When we use it?

Ideally called upon to highlight the capability of a returner in relation to their peers on tour in terms of striking right back having been broken themselves. So, if/when these great returners get to 0-15, 0-30 in the game immediately following their own serve being broken, this stat can be called upon to demonstrate just how successful they are in breaking right back.

* Break right back is based on hard court matches played over the previous 12 months.
